You can feel it standing next to them. In August the glass radiates heat, the room near the west facing windows never quite cools down, and the air conditioner runs all afternoon trying to keep up. In January there is a draft you cannot find the source of.
Cornerstone is a family owned window company in Austin, and we handle window replacement and installation across Central Texas. Whole home replacements, single windows, and storm damage repair.
The numbers here are better than most home improvements. Replacing original single pane builder windows in a typical Austin home with modern low-E double pane units commonly drops summer cooling bills by twenty to thirty percent. Payback on the energy savings alone usually lands somewhere between eight and twelve years, but the comfort difference starts the first hot afternoon.
That matters more in Austin than in most of the country. Our cooling season runs long, our sun is relentless, and a lot of homes built here between the 1970s and 1990s still have their original windows.
Our window replacement services cover measurement, installation, and the finish work around the opening. As window installers, most of our projects pull from these:
Every window in the house, measured, ordered, and installed together. This is where the energy savings really show up on a bill, and doing them at once costs less per opening than one at a time.
Not every project is a whole house. If two windows failed and the rest are fine, we will replace those two. We take small jobs.
Double pane and triple pane glass with low-E coatings, argon gas fill, and insulated frames rated for our climate. More on what to actually look for in the section below.
Two different jobs, and which one you need depends on the condition of your existing frames. Explained in detail further down
The most popular choice in Austin, and for good reason. Strong insulation performance, low maintenance, no painting, and a friendly price point.
More rigid and dimensionally stable than vinyl, which means less expansion and contraction through our temperature swings. A step up in price and performance.
Strong, slim profiles that support large glass areas for a clean modern look. Aluminum conducts heat more readily than other materials, so thermal breaks matter here.
The traditional look, common on historic Austin homes and anywhere the architecture calls for it. Beautiful, and they require maintenance to hold up.
Cracked glass, broken seals, and damaged frames after a Central Texas storm. We inspect and document what we find, the same way we do on roofing.
We are Joe and Julie Davila, and Cornerstone is our family business. Joe was born and raised in Austin and runs the construction side, on site and hands on. Julie helps with frame colors, grid patterns, and how the windows will look against the rest of your exterior.
Every project is managed by our in house team from planning through completion. Whether it is one window or thirty, you will always have one point of contact.
Doing more than windows? We handle window replacement inside whole home remodeling and alongside siding, roofing, and exterior work, and we take on interior projects too.
We’re Joe and Julie Davila, and Cornerstone is our family business. Joe was born and raised right here in Austin and runs the construction side, hands-on from the first walkthrough to the final nail. Julie brings a background in window replacement and a real eye for turning a rough idea into a space you never want to leave.
When you hire us, you’re not getting passed off to a stranger. You’re working directly with the family whose name is on the door. That means:
We named the company Cornerstone for a reason. It’s built on the same values Joe’s grandfather Eliseo lived by: faith, family, and doing honest work you can stand behind.
We keep the process simple on purpose. No runaround, no mystery.
Tell us how many windows and what is going on with them. Free, takes a few minutes.
We measure every opening and check the condition of your frames and sills, which determines insert versus full frame.
Windows are made to your measurements, so there is a lead time. We tell you what it is upfront.
Old units out, new windows set, insulated, sealed, and flashed properly.
Window replacement is priced per opening, and the range is wide. What yours costs comes down to:
Timelines have two parts people often miss. Installation itself is usually quick, often a day or two for a whole house. But the windows are manufactured to your exact measurements, so there is a lead time between order and install. We tell you what that looks like before you commit rather than after.
We would rather measure your actual openings than guess. As a window replacement company, we will check your frames, explain your options with real numbers, and give you a clear quote before anything is ordered. No hidden fees.
Window replacement is one of the easier projects to live through, with one caveat about weather.
We work opening by opening, so your house is never wide open. Each window comes out and the new one goes in the same day, usually within a couple of hours per opening. We protect floors and furniture near the work area and clean up debris and old materials as we go.
We do watch the forecast. There is a short window during each install where your wall has a hole in it, and nobody wants that during a Central Texas thunderstorm. If weather moves in, we adjust the schedule rather than push through it.

Cornerstone Home Renovations works across a wide stretch of Central Texas. If you’re a little outside the Austin city limits, don’t worry, chances are we’ve still got you covered.

It is priced per opening and varies widely based on frame material, glass package, window size and style, and whether you need insert or full frame installation. Frame condition matters too, since rot has to be repaired first. We measure every opening and give you a detailed quote before anything gets ordered.
In Austin, measurably. Replacing original single pane builder windows with modern low-E double pane units commonly drops summer cooling bills by twenty to thirty percent. Payback on the energy savings alone typically runs eight to twelve years, though the comfort improvement near west facing windows starts immediately.
Solar Heat Gain Coefficient measures how much of the sun’s heat comes through the glass. In a cold climate you might want that heat, but in Austin you want to keep it out, so lower is better. The ENERGY STAR target for our region is 0.25 or lower. It is the single most important number on the sticker for a Texas home.
U-factor measures how well the window insulates, and lower is better everywhere. For South-Central Texas the ENERGY STAR target is 0.30 or lower. Hold any quote against that number along with SHGC.
Insert replaces the sash and glass while keeping your existing frame, which works when the frame is sound and costs less. Full frame removes everything down to the rough opening and is necessary when the frame has rot, termite damage, or leak history. Older Central Texas homes with original wood frames often need full frame. We check before quoting.
Vinyl is the most common choice here because it insulates well, requires no maintenance, and is reasonably priced. Fiberglass and composite are more stable through temperature swings and cost more. Aluminum gives you slim profiles for large glass but conducts heat, so it needs a proper thermal break. Wood suits historic homes and needs upkeep.
That fog means the seal has failed and the insulating gas between the panes is gone, so the window is no longer performing. The glass unit can sometimes be replaced within a sound frame, but in most cases replacing the window is the better value. We will look at yours and tell you which applies.
Repair makes sense for hardware problems, a single cracked pane, or minor issues on otherwise sound windows. Replacement makes sense for failed seals, rotted frames, single pane glass, or windows that are drafty and sticking across the house. If you are replacing more than a few, doing them together lowers the per window cost.
Yes, the City of Austin requires a permit for window replacement. Replacing a window with one of the same size is generally a simpler express process, while changing an opening size is more involved. We handle the permitting either way.
The installation itself is fast, often a day or two for a whole house. The longer part is manufacturing, since windows are built to your exact measurements. We give you a realistic lead time before you order rather than after.
Typically two kinds. The manufacturer warranty covers the window itself and is often lifetime and transferable to a new owner, which helps at resale. The workmanship warranty covers installation. We go over both with you before you commit.
Yes. Plenty of our window work is a single failed unit or a couple of storm damaged openings. We take small jobs, though it is worth knowing the per window cost is lower when several are done together.
We do. Every estimate is free with no obligation, and if we do not need to measure first, you can often expect one within 24 hours.
Yes. Cornerstone Home Renovations is a licensed and insured window contractor, so your home and your investment are protected.
