Nothing updates a house faster than the floor. Swap out worn carpet or dated tile and the whole place reads differently, brighter, bigger, finished. It’s the single biggest visual change you can make for the money.
Cornerstone is a family-owned flooring contractor in Austin, and we install the full range: hardwood, luxury vinyl plank, tile, laminate, and carpet. We also handle the part that actually determines whether a floor lasts, subfloor prep, leveling, and moisture control.
That matters more here than most places. Between Central Texas humidity and slab foundations that move with the seasons, a floor installed over an uneven or damp subfloor will tell on you within a year. We check what’s underneath before we put anything on top of it.
We work on everything from historic homes in Central Austin, where the subfloor is a genuine adventure, to newer construction in Cedar Park and Georgetown.
Our flooring services cover material selection, prep, installation, and cleanup. Most projects pull from these:
Solid and engineered hardwood installation. Engineered is often the smarter call in Austin, it handles humidity swings with less movement than solid wood, especially over a slab. We'll walk you through species, plank width, and finish.
Pull up old carpet in an older Austin home and there's often real wood underneath. We sand, stain, and refinish existing hardwood floors, which usually costs well under replacement and brings them back to life.
The most popular flooring we install, and for good reason. LVP is waterproof, handles pets and kids, looks like wood, and comes in at a friendlier price point. Click-lock and glue-down both available depending on the space.
Porcelain, ceramic, natural stone, and wood-look tile. Tile is the workhorse for bathrooms, kitchens, and entryways, waterproof, durable, and it stays cool in an Austin August.
A budget-friendly option that's come a long way in looks and durability. Good fit for bedrooms, offices, and low-moisture areas.
Still the right answer for bedrooms and media rooms. We install carpet and pad, with proper stretching so it doesn't ripple in two years.
The part nobody sees and everybody should ask about. We assess the subfloor, repair water damage or soft spots, level uneven areas, and install moisture barriers where they're needed. Skipping this is why floors fail early.
Stair treads, risers, thresholds, and transitions between rooms and materials. The details that make an install look intentional.
We move furniture, tear out and haul away your old flooring, reinstall baseboards or add new trim, and clean up when we're done. You come back to a finished floor, not a project.
Most people call us because the floors have been bothering them for years. Here’s what new flooring actually does:
Material choice matters more here than in a lot of markets, because Central Texas throws humidity, heat, and foundation movement at your floors year-round.
Not sure? We’ll bring samples, look at your actual rooms, and tell you what makes sense for your house, your household, and your budget.
We’re Joe and Julie Davila, and Cornerstone is our family business. Joe was born and raised in Austin and runs the construction side, on-site and hands-on. Julie handles material and color selection, which matters more with flooring than people expect — the wrong plank tone can fight everything else in the room.
Every project is managed by our in-house team from planning through completion. Whether it’s one room or the whole house, you’ll always have one point of contact.
Doing more than floors? We handle flooring as part of whole home remodeling and interior projects, and we pair it with cabinetry and painting all the time.
We keep the process simple on purpose. No runaround, no mystery.

We measure the space and check the subfloor, since that determines the real scope.
We bring samples and help you weigh look, durability, and budget.
Old flooring out, subfloor prepped, new flooring installed with proper transitions.
Flooring pricing runs by the square foot, but the total depends on more than the material sticker. What yours costs comes down to:
Timeline depends on square footage and material. A single room moves fast. Whole-house flooring takes longer, and hardwood refinishing needs drying time between coats that can’t be rushed.
We measure the space and check the subfloor before quoting, so the number we give you is the number. As a flooring installation company, we’d rather tell you about a subfloor problem up front than surprise you mid-project.
Most flooring projects let you stay put, with some room-by-room shuffling.
We work in sections when we can, so you’re not displaced from the whole house at once. Furniture gets moved and put back. We seal off work areas, run dust control during tear-out, and clean up daily. Hardwood refinishing is the one exception worth planning around — the finish needs time to cure, and we’ll tell you exactly how long those rooms are off-limits.

For most households, luxury vinyl plank, it’s waterproof, durable, handles pets and kids, and it’s stable through humidity swings. Tile is the most durable and the best choice for bathrooms and kitchens. If you want real wood, engineered hardwood holds up better than solid over a slab in Central Texas.
It’s priced per square foot and varies widely by material, but the total also depends on subfloor condition, removal of your old flooring, layout complexity, stairs, and trim work. We measure and inspect before quoting so there are no surprises later.
A single room is often a day or two. Whole-house installation takes longer depending on square footage and material. Hardwood refinishing takes extra time because the finish has to cure between coats.
If the boards are solid and thick enough to sand, refinishing usually costs well under replacement and gets you a floor that looks new. If there’s water damage, warping, or the wood has been sanded down over the years, replacement is the better call. We’ll take a look and tell you honestly.
Depends what you value. LVP is waterproof, cheaper, and nearly bulletproof with pets and kids. Hardwood is real wood, refinishable, and generally carries more weight with buyers. Plenty of Austin homeowners run LVP through the main areas and keep hardwood in the formal spaces.
We find out before we start, not after. If there’s water damage, soft spots, or an uneven slab, we’ll show you what we’re seeing and price the repair separately. Installing over a bad subfloor is how floors fail early, so this isn’t a step worth skipping.
Yes to both. We move furniture, tear out and dispose of your existing flooring, and clean up when we’re done. You shouldn’t have to rent a dumpster to get new floors.
You can, and it’s a popular choice because continuous flooring makes a home feel larger. The main exception is wet areas, a lot of clients run LVP or hardwood through the main spaces and use tile in bathrooms and laundry rooms.
Luxury vinyl plank and tile lead the pack, both are waterproof and hold up to claws. If you want wood, a harder species with a matte finish hides wear better than a glossy softwood.
Almost always. We work in sections so you’re not out of the whole house at once. Hardwood refinishing is the exception since the finish needs to cure, and we’ll give you that schedule up front.
We do. Every estimate is free with no obligation, and if we don’t need to visit your home first, you can often expect one within 24 hours.
